Limit on fat discharges by Dublin food outlets (March 2008)
Dublin City Council is to limit the amount of oils, fats and grease that food outlets will be permitted to discharge into the public drainage system.
In order to comply under the Water Pollution Act 1977, it will be mandatory for restaurants, pubs, hotel and canteens to be licensed and the council has said that premises will be monitored.
Dublin City Council hopes to save hundreds of thousands of euro in maintenance and clean up operations as a result of flooding caused by blocked pipes.
