EPA to pursue businesses not observing waste codes voluntarily (May 2008)
The Irish Times has reported that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is seeking new powers to prosecute hotels, construction companies and other businesses which are not complying with voluntary waste prevention and management codes.
The EPA says if the high levels of environmental waste and pollution continue, it would ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, John Gormley TD, to introduce waste prevention legislation with accompanying penalties.
